Plan B

Dear Lissy,
Well, I've done it!  Daddy's convinced me to take a few hours a week to bake artisan bread for a new restaurant opening up in the historic district.  I'm excited and nervous all at once.  I  know it will be easy to take my focus off our home as I start something brand new (bread) and return to our schoolwork in a little over six weeks. Time for Plan B.

The Graceworks Beautiful Life Manager planner keeps my home in good order during busy seasons and is fun to use.  I began using it back when the three of you were itty-bitties, and Grammy B moved here because of her Alzheimer's.   I usually use it for 1 month each year at the start of school, but I'm beginning it a little early since I'm taking on 10-15 hours a week in the wee hours of the morning making bread.
I doubt this particular system will still be around in 20 years, but my point is this:
Sometimes it's easier to follow a system that has been thoughtfully planned by someone else than to keep trying to struggle through on your own.
BLM stresses a daily quiet time and a focus on relationships which I like.  Daddy likes the way our home runs on this system and has no problem with me using it long term if necessary.

Because I know I am squarely under your Dad's authority and protection in this new venture, I have a lot of freedom in how I change my home management to suit our family.  If the bread becomes too great a strain, I know that I can resign the position -- we aren't budgeting the income for family needs. My prayer is that this will allow me to set aside money for college, weddings, and one time home improvement projects without compromising our commitment to a home-centered family or our passion for Christian education.  I also want to continue to be able to reach out and bless those God has placed in our sphere of influence.  Most of all, I want our home to continue to have the eternal power and consequence God has intended for the Christian home.

Bless and be a blessing!
Momma

  3. I'm taking the summer off from the blog, but I'll be back in the fall. We're supposed to be having a professional food photographer and a t.v. station coming in, so maybe I'll post some pics or video from the restaurant in the future :-)

and I know I've said this before – but your Lissy is so, so, lucky to have you as a mom. Now if I only I knew what artesian bread was :-)

God bless you Rebecca – and God bless each and every one of yours.

  5. "An artisan baker is a craftsperson who is trained to the highest ability to mix, ferment, shape and bake a hand crafted loaf of bread. They understand the science behind the chemical reactions of the ingredients and know how to provide the best environment for the bread to develop" ~artisanbakers.com
I am incredibly fortunate to have a team of chefs that is committed to using hand crafted bread despite its irregularities.
